This table summarizes the standard options for new Apple computers provided through the SAS Computing allocations program for standing faculty (i.e. tenure track) only. If you are in a different type of position, please contact your local computing support provider (LSP) for information on how to get a computer.
Current technology presents cost and performance trade-offs that should be reviewed with your local computing support provider (LSP) to ensure that you choose the computer that will best meet your requirements. The computer options below reflect a range of possible choices. If none of them provide the configuration you require, your LSP can help you choose a customized configuration.

There are many other configurations available. Please work with your LSP if you want to consider others not presented here.

-
If you would prefer not to wait too long for a standard iMac, we have the previous 2023 model in stock. It comes with an M3 processor. If you want one of these, please contact the Computer Allocations Program Manager, Sarah Nachmias at allocations@sas.upenn.edu.
-
Higher end desktop computers with separate larger displays are available. Please contact your local computing support provider for more information
-
The 15-inch MacBook Air has a similar configuration to the 13-inch. Some people prefer the larger screen despite the added weight, but if you mostly work in the office and at home, an external monitor in each location may be preferable. Please contact your local computing support provider for more information
-
There is a cheaper 14-inch MacBook Pro option that comes with an M4 (not M4 Pro) processor and 16 GB of RAM. It requires a $360 instead of a $710 charge to your faculty research funds or other Penn account. Please contact your local computing support provider for more information.
