Duplicating Zoom Functionality with Microsoft Teams in Penn classrooms

  • Faculty & Staff

Penn's Information Systems and Computing department (ISC) sent out a notice at 3:30 PM on April 16, 2025 reporting a global Zoom outage. This means that faculty and staff will not be able to access or use Zoom for any meetings, classes, or lecture recordings.

If Zoom is used for any of these services, here are some options for replacing Zoom with Microsoft Teams:

All students and faculty at UPenn have access to Microsoft Teams accounts https://www2.isc.upenn.edu/how-to/microsoft-teams. Teams is installed on every SAS classroom computer as well as on faculty and staff computers.

Panopto: https://computing.sas.upenn.edu/panopto-for-one-course

Please note--- Messages with updated links can be sent out by instructors via classlists or Canvas announcements. https://computing.sas.upenn.edu/teaching_resources/class_mailing_lists

Audio Recording from a phone or other devices:

Any recording can be uploaded to your Class Recordings Page in canvas: https://computing.sas.upenn.edu/panopto-for-one-course

If you have any questions or need help with setting up one of these workarounds for any Zoom outage, please reach out to your local LSP and we'd be more than happy to help.
