Recommended: Connect using Windows App

For the best Virtual Lab experience, use Microsoft Windows App to connect to Azure Virtual Desktop. The Microsoft Windows App is freely available as a download from both the Apple Mac App store and the Microsoft Windows Store (see links below).

Mac users:
Download the Windows App from the Mac App Store

Windows users:
Download the Windows App from the Microsoft Store

After installing Windows App, sign in with your Pennkey (pennkey@upenn.edu) to access the Virtual Lab. The link below is for a video describing this process.

Alternative: Connect from a Web Browser

If you are unable to install Windows App, you can continue to access the Virtual Lab through your web browser.

Connecting from the Web on a personal computer

  1. Navigate to https://windows365.microsoft.com/
  2. Login with your PennKey@upenn.edu(not @sas.upenn.edu)
  3. Microsoft’s webpage will redirect to Penn’s web login webpage once your pennkey@upenn.edu address is entered.
  4. Check your phone for the two-factor prompt and click NO to staying signed in.
  5. Choose the “SAS_vLab_Prod” desktop pool from the "SAS-Workspace-Prod" workspace.
  6. Accept the defaults for “In Session Settings”
  7. Authenticate with your KITE account. This uses the same username and password as your PennKey. Note the “kite”in front of the “upenn.edu.”That’s normal.
  8. The Windows 11 desktop in the new SAS vLab - Use the desktop shortcut  to log off from Windows and end your vLab session. Do not save any work to the vLab. User profiles are cleaned upon logoff. Save any work to Box, Google Drive, or other online storage.
