Copying a Canvas course does not include copying over the media in the Class Recordings section of the original course. These files are stored in a video management system, separate from Canvas, called Panopto. If you wish to include videos from your previous course in your current course, there are two options for you to consider:
- Change Permissions Method: Change the permissions on the containing folder from course-specific to "Anyone at your organization with the link."
- Copy Method: Copy content from one Panopto course folder to another. With an eye to the uncertain timing of remote / on-campus learning, or because you may find these recordings helpful for face-to-face classes, consider planning to reuse content.
- Move Method: Move content from one Panopto course folder to another. This is more destructive than the Copy Method. Please use the Copy Method, especially if you have students who still need to access old course content.
FAQ
If I change the name of my video in Panopto, will it affect my Canvas pages that refer to that video?
If you change the name of your video in your Panopto account, that name change will be
reflected in the preview image in Canvas, but the link will not have to be changed.
If I have my videos in course folders, can I take them out of those course folders?
Yes, you may move the videos out of the course folders by moving them into your My Folder (the method is similar to the Copy Method, but click on Move button instead of Copy button), and share each video to "Anyone at your organization with the link".
Can I use my videos in multiple courses?
Yes, you can use your videos in multiple courses by changing the permissions (See: Change Permissions Method)
