AI Resources at Penn

  • Faculty & Staff

Penn-licensed AI resources are available to the SAS Community. Please see Penn's Guidance on Generative AI, then review ISC's page on Penn Generative AI Tools & Resources for the most up-to-date information on available products. When ready to order, fill out the SAS Brokered Products form.

Penn's Guidance on Generative AI

The University of Pennsylvania has enterprise contracts with several providers of AI tools. Before placing a request, please take the time to review Penn's published guidance on the use of generative AI, and consider how the guidance applies to your intended data and use case. If you have any questions about specific data or use cases, please reach out to your Local Support.

Available Generative AI Tools & Resources

New! PennChat is an AI portal for the Penn community that brings together multiple Large Language Models, including Claude and ChatGPT, in a customizable interface. It is now available to all faculty, staff, and students, subject to some daily rolling usage limits. The portal is hosted within Penn's secure network environment, where companies cannot use Penn data to train AI models. For more information, see the PennChat FAQ.

Other AI tools are available through ISC's Brokered Products Service, and monthly licensing fees must be paid for by a budget code. These are:

  • Anthropic Claude (Claude Code can be included upon request)
  • Chat GPT (Codex can be included upon request)

Many other AI tools are available to the public but are less secure. Please follow Penn’s Guidance for Use of Generative AI.

Chat GPT users: please note that if you already have a ChatGPT account, there is not yet a process in place for migrating your data to a Penn-licensed ChatGPT account. If your commercial ChatGPT account uses your SAS email address, we recommend that you use your @upenn.edu email address for a Penn-sponsored ChatGPT account.

Order via the Brokered Product Request Form

Please fill out the SASC Brokered Products ordering form to request a product. Provide a budget code for the monthly charges as well as other information listed in the form. Submitting the form will create a ticket in SAS Computing's ticketing system. The relevant Local Support Provider will reach out for followup.
