AI Resources at Penn
The University of Pennsylvania has enterprise contracts with several providers of AI tools as of January 2025. Below you can find a description of the AI services available and instructions for how to access them.
Before placing a request, please take the time to review Penn's published guidance on the use of generative AI, and consider how the guidance applies to your intended data and use case. If you have any questions about specific data or use cases, please feel free to check in with your LSP group.
The following tools are available to SAS faculty, graduate students, and staff only, through ISC's Brokered Products service. They require a budget code to be provided which will be charged the monthly fee:
ChatGPT for Education
- The OpenAI product that provides AI chat interaction via a web page and can generate text, images, code, and more.
- $13/month/user
- Requires a commitment to keep the license for the remainder of the fiscal year from the time of purchase (subject to change)
Microsoft Copilot M365
- Microsoft's integration of AI with its traditional Office suite of products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It also integrates with Teams and can provide meeting summaries when a meeting is recorded (requires permission of all of the attendees of the meeting).
- $31/month/user
- Requires a commitment to keep the license for 12 months from the time of purchase (subject to change)
Ordering a Product
To place an order through Penn's Brokered Products service, please provide the information needed through our SASC Brokered Products ordering form, which will create a ticket in SASC's ticketing system, and your LSP group will follow up with you. For bulk orders (more than 10 licenses) we will ask you to attach a spreadsheet with the user information (see form).
Chat GPT users: please note that if you already have a ChatGPT account, there is not yet a process in place for migrating your data to a Penn-licensed ChatGPT account. If your commercial ChatGPT account uses your SAS email address, we recommend that you use your @upenn.edu email address for a Penn-sponsored ChatGPT account.
Other Penn-Licensed AI services:
Grammarly for Education (pilot phase)
Grammarly is a tool for assistance with writing that incorporates its own proprietary AI. It is available to all active Penn faculty, staff, and graduate students for free until the end of 2025. To create an account, go to ISC's Grammarly page.
Zoom AI
Zoom AI provides meeting summaries for Zoom meetings that are recorded (requires permission of all of the attendees of the meeting). It is free for all Penn Zoom account holders. To turn it on, log in to your Penn Zoom account with your Pennkey to enable the feature (under Settings, AI Companion)
Note that AI products and services are changing rapidly. This page was last updated on Feb 6, 2025.
